School Crest and Motto

Our School Crest reflects the special features, flavour, culture, and uniqueness of Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School.

The school moto is 'Haere Ake Ra' which means 'Always Upwards'.

The lamp symbolises knowledge and lights up the path of learning; the waves represent the Manawatu River which is important to Palmerston North and the Rangitane iwi.

James Cowan, a historian, suggested the motto in 1940.
